Diary of an Elephant Orphan, produced, directed, filmed and co-edited by Hermien Roelvert-van Gils, follows the journey of a little elephant orphan Khanyisa, who miraculously survived a poacher wire snare - but now she needs a family. Will a surrogate herd accept her and will they allow humans to feed her, her daily milk amongst them if they do?
This has never been attempted before with such a young orphan and we get a true account of what it takes to work side by side with these majestic creatures to rehabilitate a little elephant orphan.
We completed a TV series for DSTV channel 147 (top 10 viewed programmes on channel 147), we’ve created awareness short films, we’ve done campaign videos and we’ve made numerous short form environmental documentaries for local broadcast.
